9/21/15 — Earlier today, Ramapo Police responded, along with Tallman FD, to a report of smoke coming from the rear of a garbage truck. The incident location was on Kent Rd., in the Village of Airmont, NY. The driver investigated and was overcome by fumes. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corp for evaluation.

The Rockland County Hazardous Material Team responded to the scene. Also present at the scene was the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The investigation revealed that the fumes were caused by chlorine from a pool filter that was discarded by a resident along the route. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and is also conducting an investigation.
