State Police investigated a two-car fatal accident on the New York State Thruway (I-87 northbound) shortly before 7 a.m. on a Tuesday in the Village of Suffern. The Tallman Fire Department assisted State Troopers and provided recovery at the scene.
According to State Police, Thruway communications received calls around 6:54 a.m. of a pickup truck traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near exit 15, followed immediately by reports of a two-vehicle accident. Troopers arriving at the scene found both drivers, the sole occupants of their vehicles, had been killed. A preliminary investigation indicated the pickup had been traveling the wrong way for unknown reasons before striking an oncoming SUV head-on.
The investigation continued with the NY State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation, assisted by Ramapo Police, NYS Thruway Traffic Safety & Maintenance, and the Tallman Fire Department.
