The Tallman Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request for a house fire in Suffern. Also assisting were Mahwah, NJ, and Hillburn, standing by.

Village police and firefighters arrived on the scene at about 6:15 p.m. after a propane tank in the backyard of 7 Washington Ave. ignited and spread to the home, according to Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn. Osborn said the fire had begun to spread throughout the house, but firefighters from Suffern, Tallman, Hillburn, and Mahwah, NJ were effectively working to control the blaze.

No injuries had been reported as of 6:30 p.m., though emergency medical staff from Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedic Services responded to the scene as a precaution — Osborn noted that the heat from the fire, combined with that day’s high temperatures, were a source of concern for the crews.
