A 57-year-old man was evaluated at a hospital for possible smoke inhalation after a fire destroyed most of his Wesley Hills home early one morning, Ramapo police said. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries battling the blaze at 15 Judith Lane.

The man was asleep when the fire broke out in the living room area at about 12:54 a.m.; a smoke detector alerted him to the blaze, according to Sgt. Chris Franklin, who was at the scene. Both the homeowner and the injured firefighter were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern for evaluation.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but didn’t appear to be suspicious, Franklin said. Hillcrest, Tallman, and Spring Valley firefighters also responded to assist Monsey.
