A multi-family home went up in flames on Washington Avenue in Suffern. Police say lightning likely caused the fire, which broke out shortly after 5 p.m. during severe thunderstorms; no one was inside at the time. One officer was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries after a fire extinguisher exploded near his face, and was later released. Firefighters were hampered by the severe weather while battling the blaze.
